Bents Basin:
Bents Basin is arguably the best equipped and most user friendly National Parks campground you’ll find. Located just 1 hour and 40 minutes from the Sydney CBD or 35 minutes from Penrith it’s perfect for getting away Friday after work to get that extra night under canvas.
Activities:
Apart from camping in some of the best maintained camp spots I’ve seen, Bents Basin has great swimming, fishing for Australian Bass, canoeing and bushwalking. Caley’s Lookout w
alk is amazing and affords the opportunity to see the local wildlife including rare Red Tail B
lack Cockatoos. The vegetation along the walk is virtually undisturbed and the view from the top well worth the effort.
If fishing is your thing bring your favourite bass lures and have a cast around the foreshores and head up the river. Bass are active during the summer months and will bite most things you cast in front of them. Spinnerbaits for the snags, Tiny Torpedoes for the shallow water and rattling divers for the deep stuff should be the pick of the lures.
Be sure to bring the canoes, kayaks or even an air mattress for the kids to float around on during the summer months.
Amenities:
Bents is so well kitted out you don’t even have to cook if you don’t want to. A well equipped café serves great meals, ice creams and drinks and plenty more to keep you fed and watered on weekends during the cold months and 7 days until 7pm during the summer holidays. There is a massive camp kitchen, hot showers, pit toilets, drinking water along with picnic tables and wood BBQ’s, just remember to bring your own wood.
